The Georgian Bay is filled with thousands of beautiful islands for hundreds of kilometres in Central Northern Ontario. Boating through the channels and around the islands is one of the best ways to experience the rugged coastline. Recently we took an aerial flight with Georgian Bay Airways to explore the skies and here’s what we got up to.
Ryan and I experienced the 30,000 Island Tour which gave us 35 minutes in the air. Georgian Bay Airways has numerous packages and sightseeing air tours to choose from depending on which experience you’re looking for and what time preference. We were celebrating Ryan’s college graduation so I thought it made the perfect gift! I knew he would love an interactive experience which would make life long memories.
Our plane departed from the beautiful downtown Parry Sound waterfront where we met with our pilot, Sam. We were introduced to the Cessna 180 Float Plane and before departure were instructed on safety measures. Before we knew it we took off and were thousands of feet up in the air. Usually on commercial flights I get plane-sick, but I did not feel too bad on this flight. I was able to actually look out the window and enjoy the take off for once. The flight was short and sweet, I wouldn’t change anything about it.
I am not that familiar with the area, but I was definitely able to spot some of our favourite destinations from above. We flew over Killbear Provincial Park and even made our way over to a family friend’s cottage. It was so incredible to see these sights from a different perspective it really made me re-examine everything. One of the biggest highlights of the trip was being able to view the private islands from above it was so fascinating. Some islands had their own private tennis courts in the centre hidden away by trees which means you would only be able to see it by plane. Because we were so high up we were able to see how large some of the rock shoals were which if anyone knows is very difficult to identify by boat once you’re in the water.
The plane ride provided us with some interesting vantage points and allowed us to see things in a different light. The landscape here is so diverse and changes all the time we were able to see forests, bogs, open water, lakes, rivers, islands and so much more. It was a fun experience and I cannot wait to ride in the skies again! I recommend reserving with Keith Saulnier for exceptional service and quality performance.
Thanks to Georgian Bay Airways for welcoming My One Big Planet as a guest. As always, all opinions are my own.
