A Guide to: Santorini, Greece

Oh Santorini! There is no other island in Greece like this. Beautiful colourful villages, white matching villas, and tall rocky hills, this world-famous volcanic island should be on your radar. If you’re heading to Santorini here’s what not to miss:

Cliff Side Towns

Most people come to Santorini to visit the beautiful cliff side village of Oia. Decorated all in white, Oia is one of the most picturesque places in the world. Thousands flock here every day to witness its beauty and stunning sunset. Talk a walk through the village and discover little shops and homes along the way. Every angle is unbelievably incredible it’s definitely worth a visit.

Being the capital of Santorini, Fira, is a lively town located in the middle of the island. Here you’ll find plenty of stores, restaurants, hotels, museums, groceries, and rental shops. Just like in Oia you can walk around its cliff side and discover tiny white hotels and churches along the way.

Imerovigli is just a short ride away from Fira, but just as lovely as it is known as the romantic destination. Its quieter than the previous two villages as it is a little less busy but provides just as well. Make sure to hike to the enormous rock, Scaros, where you’ll find a castle built on top from the 13th century.

Where to Eat

Athenian House

Looking for a seat with the best view on the island for dinner? Athenian House is your best choice! Situated in Imerovigli, this restaurant is tucked away with villas and cafes along the cliff the village. The theme and decoration inside is beyond stunning and truly made the dining experience more magical. Definitely try the White Eggplant Risotto- its one of my all time favourites dishes now.

For a healthy eat in Fira try Falafeland for fresh and cheap falafels on the go. With many flavours and combinations theres lots to try and discover.

Alkyona Sunset Restaurant

Alkyona Sunset Restaurant is a traditional Greek restaurant located in Oia just a short walk from the main road. We tried the stuffed peppers and the fish of the day- which was the best way to end our last meal in Santorini.

Red Beach

The most famous beach on the island is notably Red Beach due to its impressive rock formations. Its volcanic landscape is a must-see so make sure to head this way.

Black Beach

There are plenty of beaches on the island with black sand including Baxédes, Kolúmbo, and Períssa. They are great for sun-tanning and swimming in the deep blue waters.

Perivolos Beach

Famous for water sports and activities, Perivolos Beach is home to a mecca of jet skiing, parasailing, and scuba diving. Either ride your quad over here or take a local beach to enjoy some fun in the sun.

Sienna Resort

Sienna Resort is the ultimate Santorini getaway destination. Located in the countryside of Fira, this villa leaves you with total peace, security, and tranquility. Its one of my favourites spots on the island where I can enjoy the sun and take a private dip in my pool.

Astra Suites

Perfect for honeymoons and weddings, Astra Suites is a luxury accommodation providing one of the panoramic views on the whole island. Situated in the peaceful village of Imerovigli this hotel has it all; pool, restaurant, bar and a spa.

Windmill Villas

For a unique and unforgettable stay check into Windmill Villa, one of Santorini’s best luxury boutique hotels. Very charming and inviting, you’ll never want to leave this paradise.

This place looks absolutely beautiful. I think Greece in general is an absolutely fabulous place. I would love to enjoy the black sand beach. There was one in Hawaii, but the water tides made it dangerous to swim in, so you really couldn’t actually relax and enjoy the beach. Would love to visit this one!

Totally is! Oh cool I didn’t know Hawaii had one- will have to see it one day 🙂

Absolutely stunning photos! Haven’t made it to Greece yet, but it’s on my list. Did you find that Santorini was really touristy or no?

    • My One Big Planet November 6, 2017 at 1:21 pm

Thank you so much! Yes it was pretty touristy in Oia during the sunset and afternoons. We woke up early to explore which meant less crowds and we ventured to quieter parts of the island.
